Teacher-student relationship and academic engagement of female students of the second secondary school in Gonabad: the mediating role of academic psychological capital.

Abstract

attention to the variable of academic involvement is doubly important, especially during adolescence. the aims of this research was to investigate the relationship between teacher-student communication and students' academic engagement with the psychological academic capital of female students in the second year of high school in Gonabad city.According to the scope of the research community using multi-stage random sampling four schools were randomaly selected from second period of high schools in Gonabad city and one class was randomaly selected from each school and all the students of those classes im the number of 350 subjects responded to Rive academic engagement questionnaires (2013), Murray and Zovak teacher-student relationship (2011) and Zarei academic psychological capital (2019). The current research is a correlational and structural equation modeling metod in which the relationships between the three discussed variables were investigated. According to the obtained statistical results the model has a good fit. The finding showed that teacher-student communication directly (./36) and indirectly(./22) and through academic psychological capital is a positive and significant predictor of student’s academic engagement. Overal, the finding of this research show the importance of paying attention to the role of teacher-student communication and academic psychological capital in increasing students academic engagement.
