Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of NCTM standards-based education on the attitude and academic achievement of fifth grade students in mathematics. This research was a quasi-experimental study which was done on 100 elementary fifth grade students in Birjand in the 2018-2019 semester. Research samples were collected by convenience sampling method. Then, Students were randomly assigned to two groups of experiment and control (n = 50). The selected topics were taught to the experimental group for 8 weeks in 10 sessions using a process-based approach by the researcher. The control group was also taught the traditional method. Data were collected using demographic information form, mathematics attitude questionnaire and academic achievement test. Finally, data analysis was performed using descriptive and analytical statistics in SPSS software version 18 at the significant level p
