Teaching Philosophy in Primary Schools and Its Effect on Creativity and Academic Achievement

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the critical role of philosophy education on the creativity and academic progress of students. Elementary schools were implemented. The method used in this research was quantitative and its approach was semi-experimental. The statistical population of this research was all the students of the 6th grade of primary schools of the first period of government primary schools for boys in Mahabad city. The sample size of 50 people was selected using available sampling method. Then the samples were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. To measure creativity, Torrance's creativity assessment test (Form B) was used, and to check the academic progress of students, the average of the grades of subjects (mathematics, science, Farsi, social studies) at the end of the academic year was used. The results of the univariate covariance analysis test showed that philosophy education has been able to lead to a significant difference in the mean scores of the variables of academic achievement and creativity and also to create a significant difference in the mean scores of the variable levels of creativity (fluidity, extension, innovation and flexibility) in the stage The post-test should be done at the error level of 0.05.
