Physical Bullying, Sports Aggression and Team Cohesion among Internet-addicted and non-Internet-addicted Student-athletes

Abstract

The key to Internet addiction, like any other addiction, is dependence, which includes things or discontinuation syndrome like tolerance, withdrawal syndrome, lack of control over use, and impulsive use. The present study is This is an applied and descriptive research. To determine the sample size, simple random sampling method was applied, according to which two sample groups including 75 students, addicted and non-addicted to the Internet, were included selected in for this study. Data collection instruments included Young Internet Addiction Test, Illinois Bullying Scale, Besharat Sports Aggression Questionnaire and Group Cohesion Questionnaire. Results of this study suggested that both groups in each of the dependent variables, were significantly different from each other in terms of sports aggression (p = 0.001), physical bullying (p = 0.024) and team cohesion (p = 0.001). According to results of this study, for centers and schools where student-athletes attend, based on results of this study, holding orientation classes for athletes, coaches and families regarding the importance of phenomenon of Internet addiction, also, strengthening religious beliefs among these students and increasing sports leisure time are strongly recommended for centers and schools where student-athletes attend, so that these students are less exposed to the harms of Internet.
