Abstract

Transition students from one course to another is one of the challenging events that can affect their academic performance. The present study was conducted with the aim of identifying cognitive and emotional challenges in the transition of students to secondary school. : The research method is exploratory. The statistical population included all the first grade middle school students of Babul city, 300 were selected as a sample using the multi-stage cluster sampling method. In the qualitative part, the sample has reached theoretical saturation with 14 people. The tool of data collection was a questionnaire made by the researcher, and was prepared based on the results of the interview. The questionnaire content validity ratio was above .75 and its reliability was .80. : The results of the research showed that social, educational, psychological and family challenges were the most important challenges for students in the transition to secondary school. And social challenges in public schools and educational and family challenges in Sampad schools have been higher than average. And there was no significant difference in psychological challenge between schools. On the other hand, there is a negative correlation between the level of students' challenges in this course and their academic performance.
