Abstract

Background:One of the main goals of education is to nurture students' questioning abilities and critical thinking skills.Students who are guided by inquiry can better understand and internalize concepts and ideas. The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of inquiry-based learning on developing questioning skills among first-year secondary school students
Methodology:The statistical population of this study included male first-year secondary school students in Langrud city during the academic year1400-1401(2021-2022).Using a purposeful sampling method,20 students were selected as a sample.Observation tools, surveys, and questionnaires were used to collect data on students'attitudes, behaviors, and questioning skills.Inquiry-based teaching was implemented for one month, with four sessions per week dedicated to Persian language lessons
Findings:Key findings identified significant causes for the lack of questioning skills among students, such as embarrassment when asking questions, ridicule by classmates, and a tendency for teachers to emphasize rote learning rather than inquiry-based learning. After the implementation of the research-oriented approach, students' questioning skills increased from65.77 to144.15,indicating a substantial improvement.
Conclusion:In summary, this study demonstrated that the inquiry-based approach in Persian language lessons significantly improved students' questioning skills and academic performance. Therefore, incorporating this method into the educational system can encourage critical thinking, improve academic performance, and enhance students'questioning abilities
