Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the awareness of new teachers of Farhangian University of Golestan Province about the misconceptions of the sixth grade math textbook. In this study, the level of awareness of new teachers depending on gender, their teaching area to the city and village and the type of their diploma has been investigated. This descriptive study was a survey. The population of this study consisted of all the graduates of Farhangian University of Golestan Province in the academic year 1397-98, who are called new teachers and their number was 302 males and females. Using stratified proportional sampling method, 170 people were selected as the participants. The validity of the questionnaire was obtained using the expert opinion in the field of Mathematics Education and Cronbach's alpha coefficient for reliability was 0.85. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation and variance) and inferential statistics (one-sample t-test, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA). The research findings showed that the level of awareness of new teachers of Farhangian University of Golestan Province about the common misconceptions of the sixth grade math textbook is significantly higher than the average level.
