Investigating the extent of teachers' use of art in the teaching of non-art subjects in the elementary school

Abstract

Background and objectives: Today the use of art in teaching other fields of learning is discussed.The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the extent of teachers' use of art in teaching non-art subjects of the elementary school. Methods:This research is a type of applied-descriptive research that was conducted with a survey method. The statistical population of the research is the primary school teachers of Karaj and the number of the statistical sample was 254 people. Data collection was done with a researcher-made questionnaire, and data analysis was done with descriptive and inferential statistics indicators (T-test and Friedman's ranking) and the reliability of the questionnaire was also done with Cronbach's alpha test and its value was estimated at 0.83. Findings:The findings showed that 71% of the statistical sample has experience using art in teaching non-art subjects. Among the 13 art disciplines, the use of crafts, painting, storytelling and film was higher than the average, and poetry, calligraphy, music, singing and chanting, volume building, photography and historical works of art were below the average. Conclusion: In general, the amount of teachers' use of art subjects is less than average, except for the three subjects of Persian, technology and science.
